The South African Police Service in this Province would like thank members of the community in and around this area who responded to our plea that anyone who see a person with gunshot wounds to contact the Police immediately.
On 2018-03-26, late afternoon, while persuing these suspects, the Provincial Tracking Team received information from members of the community that a badly injured unknown person is lying in the bushes near Ga-Phaahla village and they reacted swiftly.
On arrival, a middle aged unknown man was found in the river badly injured with gunshot wounds and he was unable to talk as the firearm projectile was still lodged in his mouth. He was immediately taken to the hospital for medial treatment where he is under Police guard.
The Police preliminay investigations have also revealed that the getaway vehicle, an Audi A4 that was recovered, was reported stolen in the Garsfontein area. The same car is also connected to the cash-in-transit robbery that occurred at the Bloemfontein Airport in the Free State Province during January 2018.
A dedicated police Task Team is still on a massive manhunt for the remaining group of armed suspects following a shootout between the Security officers and these suspects during an attempted cash-in-transit robbery at Diphagane village in the Jane Furse Policing area near Lebowakgomo outside Polokwane.
The incident took place on Sunday 2018-03-25 during the day when the cash-in-transit Security Officers were on their way to fix ATMs in and around the Jane Furse area. They were allegedly overtaken by a silver Toyota Corolla with three occupants inside. The suspects allegedly ordered them to stop and subsequently started shooting at them with rifles.
The Security Officers retaliated and during the process, one suspect was fatally wounded and the other two were seriously injured but their accomplices loaded them into the get-away car before they fled the scene with a white Audi A4 with registration numbers CD 27 ZG GP.
The Police were notified and reacted swiftly and one unknown middle aged man was found lying dead with gunshot wounds.The following were also recovered at the crime scene :
* 01 x AK 47 rifle.
* 01 x 9 mm pistol.
* Undisclosed amount of cash.
* A Toyota Corrolla that was allegedly robbed earlier this month in the Tubatse Policing area outside Burgersfort.
The Police manhunt immediately ensued where the getaway vehicle, the Audi A4 was found abandoned not far from the crime scene.
The other suspects involved in this incident are still unknown and no cash was taken.
The Police investigations are still continuing.
