On 26 March 2018, Ntuzuma Regional Court convicted and sentenced Khulekani Ngcobo (44) to 15 years’ imprisonment for murder.

In February 2016, Khumbulani Ngema, 23, was found dead at his place of residence in A section, Phumula Road in KwaMashu hostel. He had multiple gunshot wounds all over the body. A case of murder was opened at KwaMashu police station for investigation. Through an extensive police investigation, Ngcobo was arrested. He was taken to Ntuzuma court where he was convicted.

In another conviction by Empangeni Regional Court, on 27 March 2018, a 32-year-old uncle was sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment for raping his sister’s daughter in her absence in Port Dunford Reserve. In September 2015, the accused chased the victim’s younger brother out of the house and grabbed a then 11-year-old female into his room where he raped her. He then threatened to kill her and her mother should she report the incident. The victim reported the incident and the case was opened at Esikhaleni police station. It was transferred to Empangeni Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit for investigation. The accused was arrested two years later and prosecuted through investigator’s thorough investigation.
