A 52-year-old man in Nyezane has been arrested by the police for being in illegal possession of firearms and ammunition yesterday in the Amangwe area.

According to intelligence reports received, Ladysmith police officers and the public order police invaded the suspects residence and found in his possession 190 kilograms of dagga worth R95,000-00 stored in a plastic drum, two firearms, a rifle 20 rounds of ammunition and a pistol with 36 rounds of ammunition.

Lt-General Khombinkosi Jula, the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner commended the police effort in arresting criminals and recovery items from them.

The suspect has been taken to police custody, he has been charged for being in illegal possession of the items and is expected to appear at the Bergville Magistrates Court Today.
