The Absa Premiership champions will open the new year with a league clash against Chiefs on Saturday, with Mosimane expecting a battle at 15h30 at FNB Stadium.

Chiefs, who are sixth on the log with 21 points from 15 matches, have won three games in a row in all competitions since Middendorp replaced the sacked Giovanni Solinas at Naturena last month.

Sundowns, however, are a point richer and have three matches in hand heading into the showdown at Soccer City, and Mosimane’s men are looking to chase down log leaders Bidvest Wits, who are eight points ahead.

“We need to catch up. We need to try and win,” Mosimane said.

“It’s not easy to go to FNB with a new coach. Okay, we don’t lose to be honest at FNB, but also we don’t win easily.

“Coach Middendorp is a tough, top disciplinarian. I could read one or two comments. I am following a bit. The players are having it different.”

Meanwhile, The Brazilians are the only side yet to lose in the league this season.
