Chippa United have re-signed defender Phetso Maphanga from Orlando Pirates, according to an official at the Chilli Boys.

Maphanga has reportedly penned a six-month loan deal with the Port Elizabeth-based outfit and started training with the Absa Premiership strugglers last week.

“Maphanga’s deal is done and he is already training with the team,” said the official under the condition of anonymity.

The 25-year-old, who can play at left-back or on the wing, made one appearance for Bucs this season following his arrival in January from Chippa.

Buccaneers midfielder Meshack Maphangule was also tipped to join United, but the prospective move appears to have fallen through.

“Maphangule was also set to sign but the Pirates technical team decided against releasing him,” the official added.

Maphangule has only played three times for the Sea Robbers since joining them from Black Leopards before the start of the season.

Chippa, with 13 points from 15 games, are second-from-bottom on the league standings.
