Words reaching Trendsdaily sports has it that Kaizer Chiefs have joined the race to sign a player from Orlando Pirates.

Abbubaker Mobara was linked to both Mamelodi Sundowns and Cape Town City with few months to the January transfer window.

However, City boss  John Comitis has responded to reports linking the club with the Pirates utility player.

Comitis has squashed the reports, indicating that making a move for Mobara would not be suitable at this moment for the defender cum midfielder.

“Well, there is no truth in those reports regarding Abbubabker Mobara,” Comitis told Goal.

Mobara, 24, has been used in several positions both in defence and midfield since his days with Ajax Cape Town.

However, Comitis regards Mobara as a central midfielder as the player previously turned out for both Ajax and Pirates in that position.

“We have enough cover in Mobara’s position (central midfield). So, we are not looking to beef up that department,” the former Ajax chairman added.

The Citizens, who under the guidance of Benni McCarthy, have Thabo Nodada, Mpho Matsi and Ronald Putsche among other central midfielders in their team.

“We have Thabo Nodada, Mpho Matsi and Ronald Putsche, who are all doing well and we are happy with them,” he concluded.

New reports has it that Chiefs coach Giovanni Solinas was impressed with his display on Saturday in the Soweto derby and has asked Chiefs management to bring him to Naturena.

Wits and Mamelodi Sundowns have also been linked with Mobara, who has made few appearances in all competitions for Bucs this season.

It remains to be seen if Pirates will consider cashing in on Mobara in January and avoid losing him for free at the end of the current campaign.
