Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane has confirmed midfielder George Lebese will be leaving the club in the new year.

Lebese has been struggling for game time since leaving Kaizer Chiefs in 2017 to join the eight-time league champions.

The Mamelodi born midfielder, who has been linked to both Bidvest Wits, Cape Town City, Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs, will be looking forward to a new start when the January transfer window opens.

Despite his lack of game time, Mosimane applauded Lebese for conducting himself well during his time at Chloorkop. Last season Lebese worked hard to lose weight and kept on fighting to get into the team, though things did not work out for him.

At 29, the left winger still has a lot to offer and will be looking to make up for lost time in the last year-and-a-half.

“He has been struggling to get into the team, it’s a fact guys. What I like [about] George, he tried. He is the guy who is not casual. He tried, he lost 6kg,” said Mosimane.

“It’s difficult to get to the team. Look at Anthony [Laffor], he is not playing but when he comes in, he gets switched on anytime. So when you come in, you have to switch it on so that we don’t forget you.

“It’s been tough for George. I like him as a person. Besides football I like him, he is a nice person, he doesn’t cause problems. It didn’t work out. I respect and understand [his decision] because he wants to move on. We don’t want to kill his career,” he added.
