Kaizer Chiefs are preparing a contract for former Orlando Pirates midfielder Josephy ‘Shakira’ Kamwendo after he impressed on a trial.
The 32-year-old Malawi international was the first foreigner to be crowned Zimbabwe’s Soccer Star of the year in 2005 playing for CAPS United, and later played with the likes of Teko Modise at Pirates.
According to reports, Chiefs are looking to sign the ex-TP Mazembe and Mighty Wanderers attacker on a one-year deal.
“We are busy trying to catch a big fish,” Chiefs coach stated .
“We have assessed Kamwendo on Thursday and he is also joining the team for training today. But the technical team is already happy with the player. He played with Teko Modise at Orlando Pirates. He is training with the team even today. He joined us on Thursday last week. He has just won the league with his team. He wants to come to South Africa and revamp his career again.
“We’ll see, but it [a contract] can’t be more than one season. It will be one with an option. We just need to speed up the process of his work permit. He arrived on Thursday and started training with the team the same day, even though he was still tired. That’s a big fish huh?”
