The future of Kaizer Chiefs striker Leonardo Castro is under attack by the club faithfuls it has emerged.
The former Mamelodi Sundowns man was a subject of ridicule as he was jeered by some sections of the Amakhosi faithful at Durban’s Moses Mabhida stadium during their CAF confederations match over the weekend.
The supporters asked him to live up to expectation or leave the club due to his inability to reciprocate his Sundowns goal scoring form.
Reports says that the player is open to leave if he is no longer welcomed at the club by the supporters.
“Castro wants to leave if he is no longer needed at the club following the boo boys jeering at the weekend”. Mr Zungu said.
However, Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp found the jeering of striker worrying as he defended him.
“I like this type of player – disappears for certain moments in the game, everybody then thinks there’s nothing there, and then boom he scores and makes the result,” the coach explained.
“I believe one of the reasons he is probably here at Chiefs is because we have all seen that he is a goalscorer and not an entertainer. I think we should all love Leo Castro, he is a fantastic player.
“The supporters need to understand the role of each player.”
