The former minister of sports and ANC elections head Fikile Mbalula through his lawyer says that he paid the R700,000 which he reportedly collected asked a Sascoc sporting goods supplier to help him pay for his 2016 family holiday to Dubai while he was still the Minister of sports.

The said report was made known by public protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane. While trying to explain his actions, Mbalula said he borrowed said funds from a friend;

“I consider it regrettable that [Mkhwebane] has chosen to make the adverse findings against me. It has now become necessary for me to consider challenging the findings in a court of law,” Mbalula said.
