The United Nations is celebrating a global icon.

President Cyril Ramaphosa is in New York for his maiden visit to the United Nations General Assembly.

But before that sitting begins on Tuesday, Ramaphosa will visit Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

The pair is unveiling a statue of former president and struggle icon Nelson Mandela at the UN’s headquarters.

The statue — along with a special Nelson Mandela Peace Summit — are part of global centenary celebrations.

Ramaphosa will take https in the General Debate aimed at discussing global issues.

He’ll also meet business leaders as part of his plan to attract $100-billion in foreign investment.
