The suspect was arrested by members of Reaction Unit South Africa following a robbery along the railway line behind the bus rank in the Tongaat CBD today.
At approximately 11:36 Reaction Officers received a call from a member of public reporting three suspicious individuals walking along the railway line. As Officers arrived at the scene they were approached by an individual who informed them that he was robbed of his mobile phone by the three men. The victim explained that one of the suspects was armed with an Okapi pocket knife.
RUSA Officers pursued the suspects and apprehended one of them hiding in a bush behind the bus rank. A cellphone belonging to the victim and the Okapi pocket knife that was used in the robbery was recovered in his possession.
The suspect is a resident of Magoveni in Tongaat. He is believed to be linked to several other robberies that have occurred in the area.
He was placed under arrest and is currently detained at the Tongaat SAPS.
