The police have arrested a 22-year-old Orange farm female suspects who allegedly kidnapped a three month old baby after tricking the mother of the child at Stredford clinic, South of Johannesburg on Wednesday.
The mother of the baby, Neo Salamane, age 28 disclosed that she went for immunization, and they were on a queue when the suspect approached her.
“I arrived at the clinic at around 8am for immunization, while I was in the queue with other mothers, an unknown woman joined us. We later sat together, she started a conversation with me and the lady who was next to me.”
“My child started crying, and this woman pretended to be concerned about my baby and offered to calm him down. She comforted my baby for about 15 minutes until he fell asleep in her arms.”
“The other woman asked me to carry her baby as was going to collect her clinic card. I was left with this strange woman who seemed so caring about children. She even offered me tips on how to make babies sleep and told me that she was a mother herself. She said she had a seven-month-old baby.”
“When the other wman came back she took her child and left. But soon thereafter, this other woman myteriously disappeared with my baby and I don’t know what swayed my focus. But what I knew was she had vanished with my little baby.” Salemane explained.
The baby was found alive last night after the police conducted a thorough search, and the suspect arrested and charged with kidnapping, Captain Tebogo Lephotho, Police Spokesperson said.
“The supect has been arrested and charged with kidnapping, police worked tirelessly and conducted a full search after positive leads assisted in the investigation.”
“The woman was seen via CCTV footage leaving the clinic with the baby at around 10am on Wednesday,” Lepotho said.
The baby has reunited with the mother, and the suspect will appear in court soon.
