Due to the recent incident that happened on Sunday, the police has arrested one of the suspect for the shooting and killing of a a 36-year-old Constable Mokgope Rankoe, a police officer who was on duty in Braamfisher, Soweto.

Brig Vishu Naidoo, Police spokesperson stated that there were two police officers who was at the scene of the incident, Const Rankoe who was gunned down and a colleague from Dobsonville police station, who was rushed to the hospital, and they were attending to a robbery complaint around midnight when the shooting started.

He also diclosed that a 9mm firearm, suspected to be for one of the suspects was found at the scene of the incident, and it was due to team work through out the night, within hours of the incident that led to the arrest of one of the suspect.

Naidoo said; “Constable Rankoe was struck in his head by a bullet and the colleague was overpowered before both members firearm and cellular phones were stolen from them.”

“Const Rankoe was rushed to a hospital where he died shortly.

Khehla Sitole, National Police commissioner has condemned the attack, he also commends the police over the speedy arrest of one of the suspects.

“I have directed that all those responsible for this attack must be arrested and through the criminal justice system, they must face the full burnt of the law.”

“The murder of the constable comes as police management nationally prepares to commemorate 29 fallen colleague in Pretoria this coming Sunday,” Sitole said.

The team are also searching for the other suspects, the suspect arrested will appear in court soon.
