Three people were injured when two vehicles collided on Birch road in Benoni late last night.

At approximately 11pm, paramedics arrived on the scene where they found one of the vehicles wedged against a tree next to the road. The female occupant was found trapped inside of the vehicle. The local fire department had to use various rescue tools to free her. Due to the damage, it took rescuers some time to free her from the wreckage. Once freed, paramedics were able to conduct a full assessment and found that she had sustained moderate to serious injuries. She was later rushed to Tambo Memorial Hospital for further care.

Two occupants from a second vehicle were treated on scene for minor to moderate injuries. They were later transported to Tembisa Hospital for further care.

The exact circumstances surrounding the collision is not yet known.
