The Democratic Alliance in eThekwini sends their deepest condolences to the Dlamini family following the sad passing of two members of their family who died in a road accident. Fourteen year old Ayanda Mpanya and six year old Ghotso Dlamini were knocked down by a taxi whilst crossing Dumisani Makhaye highway in Ntuzuma B5 on their way to school. The children died instantly on the scene.
For months now the residents of Ntuzuma in B5 have been pleading with the municipality to build a bridge for pedestrians to ensure their safety.
The DA has since visited the family and offered the Dlamini family support during this difficult time. We have also spoken to eThekwini officials who have promised to avail patrollers for the time being. The DA will continue monitoring the situation to ensure that the proposed solution is not made permanent, as it will not prevent further deaths of children. We want a permanent solution through the building of the bridge.
The DA will be submitting a motion in the next council meeting for the bridge to be built as soon as possible.
