The 34 year old cyclist, Shaun, was stabbed through the head with a knife during an attempted robbery. He rode to the hospital on his bicycle immediately after the attack with the knife stuck to him. Receptionists were shocked to see a blood-soaked man in front of them in a room full of patients.

He had been cycling to work in Strand near Cape Town,  when he was attacked by two men, one of whom stabbed him in the head as they tried to grab his bike. But Shaun fought back and managed to beat them both off. He then got back on his bike and cycled to the nearest hospital with the knife sticking out of the side of his skull.

Shaun was transferred into the Tygerberg Hospital nearby on Monday afternoon and underwent emergency surgery and a spokesman confirmed he was “stable”.

“The patient was very lucky in that although the knife was plunged into his skull it bent on impact with the bone and the blade went down his face outside the skull.

He was very very lucky that the blade hit him in the wrong spot to kill him”. Doctor announced.

The South African Police Service confirmed they are investigating the attack.
